Smoked Throughout Your Life And Affected Your Skin? See A Dermatologist For Help

Blog

Smoking can cause premature wrinkles on different areas of your face, especially around the lips. Less oxygen and nutrients that are important for your skin get to your face if you smoke. The chemicals in cigarettes can also affect collagen, which helps your skin retain elasticity. Fortunately, you can see a dermatologist to help you with wrinkles. They will offer different treatment options, three of which are listed below.

Botox

One common treatment used is Botox. When the dermatologist injects your skin with Botox, it gets below the surface down to the muscle area. Once this happens, the muscles will not have as much activity and appear to freeze. This will help your wrinkles soften and become much less noticeable. If you have very fine lines, they will disappear completely. Botox can last a few months up to a year. Once it wears off, your wrinkles will come back slowly, and, eventually, they will be back to the way they were. You can return to the dermatologist and have Botox injections done again to prevent this from happening.

Microdermabrasion

Another treatment a dermatologist can do for you is microdermabrasion. With this treatment, the dermatologist uses a tool to exfoliate the top layer of your skin. After the treatment, your skin will peel leaving much healthier-looking skin and fewer wrinkles. This is not really painful, but you will likely be a little uncomfortable during the procedure. One benefit of this treatment is you will have no recovery period. You may have to have more than one treatment, however, to achieve the desired results.

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is another treatment. This may be chosen if you have a lot of wrinkles on your face. The dermatologist can do a light chemical peel that may not remove a lot of wrinkles. Because of this, the dermatologist may suggest a deep chemical peel, which is done at a hospital by a plastic surgeon. You will be put under anesthesia in most cases. This is because this procedure can be very painful. The surgeon puts an acid chemical on your face that will cause your face to peel for a couple of weeks after the treatment. You will need to take time off work as your face will be very red and painful. The plastic surgeon will put a thick ointment on your face to help with the pain. The main benefit of getting a deep chemical peel is it will last many years.

The dermatologist can go over these treatments with you in much more detail.

Turning Back the Clock

After my thirtieth birthday, I began to notice some unappealing signs of aging on my face. I started to see dark spots and fine lines. Because I wanted to turn back time, I researched non-invasive cosmetic procedures to help people look younger. I was immediately intrigued by microdermabrasion. I began getting microdermabrasion treatments regularly. After each treatment, my skin instantly looked smoother and more vibrant. Within a few weeks, the fine lines under my eyes and around my mouth became less noticeable. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most popular types of cosmetic treatments performed on patients today. Enjoy!
